Brad Reed's Day 88 of 365
My wife and daughter love to draw and color together. The weather in Ludington this week has been unseasonably warm and wonderful so they decided to take their artwork outside. Betsy drew the butterfly and then Julia lay down to color it in with her sidewalk chalk. I was drawn to the beautiful light hitting Julia's face.

Michigan Madness
I spent years on Coast Guard boats watching Lake Michigan waves curl and break. Their power and beauty demanded my attention then and commanded me to photograph them.
Bird Ballet
Birds of a feather are definitely flocking together this morning, circling en mass over a farm field near Coopersville. How do so many birds dart and soar in such synchronization without colliding? I do not have the answer so I will just concentrate on photographing this poetry in motion.

I am in position before 6:30 A.M. The moon drops behind streaks of clouds as it sets over Lake Michigan. The pre-sunrise color in the sky is breathtaking. I am in heaven shooting the moon.

January Jewels
Look what the Snowbirds in Florida were missing on one of those magical Michigan winter mornings. Luckily I had stayed behind to see these jewels of frost during a drive through the Michigan countryside
Royally Rugged
If you like rugged places, come to Isle Royale. My son Brad has managed to work his way to the top of a rocky cliff to check out the view. I am appreciating the ruggedness of the view looking upward.

I am still experimenting daily with my external flash. Tonight I wanted to show some motion in the dune grass, but still have it look somewhat sharp so I set my shutter speed to 1/200 of a second and used the rear sync option on my flash. With rear sync, my flash went off at the end of my exposure, freezing the motion of the blowing grass.
